Dear Passing the Peace Readers, 

Do you ever get the feeling like following Jesus is impossible because being exactly like the Son of God seems like too high of a standard? Did you ever go to church and instead of feeling inspired to do better, you ended up feeling ashamed or disappointed in yourself for ‘getting it wrong’? In all of our striving we can sometimes lose track of the fact that we are human and that trying our best looks a little different to each one of us. So this Lent I invite you to join me by following in Peter’s footsteps - to remember that from the very start, the people who Jesus called were ordinary humans just like you and me.

This Lent, we are focusing on the life and faith of one of Jesus’ most famous disciples. In Peter, we see a person who is both steadfast and unsteady, a dear friend and a betrayer, a follower and a wanderer. In Peter, we often see ourselves. By following Peter’s journey, we watch the story of Jesus unfold through the eyes of a very normal human trying to figure it all out—just like us.

This Lent, we will look for ourselves in the stepping stones of Peter’s story. We will reflect on the stages of our own faith journeys as well as who and what has shaped us along the way. As we wander, let us tune our hearts to sing God’s grace. May we rest in streams of mercy, never ceasing. 

We have a bundle of ways for you to join us in this adventure! We have: 

-worship every week (including special worship services for Good Friday and Easter!)

-Opportunities to learn and reflect in community through Wednesday Bible Studies (with soup!) Wednesday nights 5-7 pm, Burford United Church and Wednesday afternoon 12-3 pm, St George United Church (on zoom as well).
