Dear Glen Morris United Church,
When people ask what I love about being in ministry sometimes it can be hard to know where to start. Yesterday, a Waterloo-based LGBTQ+ organization called OK2BME hosted an event where members of local highschool Gay Straight Alliance Clubs (GSAs) had a chance to gather for community building, learning, and celebration. I had so many wonderful conversations with LGBTQ+ youth about faith, religion, gender, and sexuality while also getting me other amazing people and organizations serving the LGBTQ+ communities of this area. It feels so important and amazing to be able to represent The United Church of Canada in these spaces, offering an empowering and affirming message about God’s love for all.
Today, I welcomed a group of people gathering at the church to take a basket-weaving workshop. I love seeing the ways that the Robson Community Room helps us reach out into the community and am looking forward to the same room being filled with the smell of pancakes and maple syrup next Tuesday evening for our first Pancake Dinner in ages. This Sunday, I’m delighted to be joining you in worship - a special service where we will be drawing inspiration from the stained glass artwork that is such a beautiful part of our sanctuary.
Thank you to all who helped run and participated in this year’s AGM!
May the peace of Christ be with you,
Yours in Christ,
Rev Michiko
