Wendy and Mike Adema of Princess Street have shared with Glen Morris United that a 'new to Canada' couple, Oksanna and Vitalii Prystay, are temporarily staying at an Airbnb in Glen Morris. Wendy acknowledges that the couple would love to be in Kitchener, if only because they are closer to resources that pertain to them. Viatalii has a drivers license but doesn't have a car, so it’s very limiting. They would also be more easily able to get to Guelph, where they lived for a month, and where they have some connections, including immigration.

Their hopes, at this point, for getting permanent residency are slim. The Canadian government isn’t handing that out easily. There would be some chance of getting that if they moved north, which Waterloo Region Grass Roots Initiative, where Wendy and Mike got connected with them, is working on.

They would love to have their family join them. Two of their children and families are in Lviv, one of them suffered a mental health breakdown after being involved in the war, but cannot leave Ukraine. They also have a son and family in Peterborough, who managed to come to Canada via Turkey.

Their most urgent need is work so they may have some finances, and they are most willing to do house and garden work. They do not speak English yet but are learning and they are good at using Google Translate.  If you're able to support this couple in this way, their email address is pystaybooks@gmail.com.
