Lynn McRuer learned to play the organ at 16 from Rev. Fred Rice while serving as organist at Glen Morris United Church from 1976 - 1978. She subsequently attended the University of Waterloo, graduating with an Honours BA, Music and Psychology. A graduate of the MSW programme at Laurier, her musical career has included church positions at Knox United in Ayr and First United in Cambridge. Lynn (with her sister Heather) also led the North Dumfries Children's Choir based in the village of Ayr for several years. She has sung in the Addison Consort Singers, Kokoro and several university ensembles. She conducts two pickup choirs, the Hoot and the Dumfries Community Choir. Her favourite, however, is the ensemble Distinction, originally seven women, who have sung together for over 30 years. Lynn also has family roots in this community...her mom, aunts and uncle all sang in the church choir and her great aunt Mary played here as organist for 48 years!
