The Celtic Vespers gathering at Glen Morris United Church on March 16th was a truly engaging and multifaceted experience. The performance by Celtic duo "Feed The Ducks" injected vibrant energy into the service, along with the skillful Highland dancing of our minister Rev. Michiko Bown-Kai. This set an uplifting tone while the mix of Celtic hymns, prayers, and responsive readings created an atmosphere of unity and reflection. The inclusion of stories from Padraig O'Tuama's "Bury the Hatchet" added a contemplative layer, inviting attendees to ponder deeper themes alongside the celebratory music and rituals. The service was followed by a delicious meal featuring a selection of five different homemade stews, fresh Irish soda bread, and festive rainbow desserts including the pot of gold. The conversations and laughter lasted well after the meal. What a wonderful way to celebrate Irish/Celtic traditions and the spirit of togetherness!
Thanks to all those who made it happen, especially Michiko Bown-Kai, Lynn McRuer, Susan Harkness, Deb Fraser, Ingrid Douglas, Janice Little, Jen Westbrook and of course the musicians Devon Martene and Becky Van Harn.
