As the weather becomes colder, the incidence of respiratory conditions is likely to increase. This year there have been outbreaks of COVID variants throughout the summer months, and Brant County Health Unit currently reports a moderate level of COVID activity in the community. Under these circumstances, this is a timely reminder that if you develop respiratory symptoms, stay at home, seek medical attention as warranted, and please do not attend church while you are sick. Also, be considerate of those who choose to wear a mask for their own protection when attending church or meeting with others. For those at high risk of developing complications of respiratory infections including Long COVID syndrome, the Canadian National Committee on Immunizations (NACI) recommends immunizations for Influenza and COVID in the Fall Season. Other immunizations are now available for RSV (respiratory syncytial virus) and pneumonia. Immunizations remain a personal decision.
We all hope there will be no widespread COVID outbreaks in the coming months.
