Dear Glen Morris United Church,
I’m aware that you’ll be receiving this message on the eve of Good Friday and so I want to warmly invite you to join us for worship as we remember and honour one of the lowest points in our church year. It is not easy to think about Jesus’ death - state violence, the loss of life, the bystanders, the many hands of Empire at work in death dealing ways and yet, we know that just as Jesus on the cross is God’s testament to suffering with us, we are also called to bear faithful witness today to this story and the suffering in our world. It is hard but we do not do it alone!
Even if you can’t join worship tomorrow I hope you find a moment of true sabbath this weekend to pause and reflect on how the Easter story is landing with you in this season of your life.
Without wanting to rush past Good Friday, I do want to also add that I look forward to being with you on Easter Sunday as we greet the dawn with a special sunrise service (6:30 am) and also are gathering at the church at our usual 10:30 am worship time (coffee is on at 10 am!).
As you gather around tables to share food and companionship with loved ones this weekend, may the peace of Christ be with you!
If your Easter plans are feeling small, if this time in your life feels more Holy Saturday than Easter, may you know the peace of Christ in your heart.
In life, in death, in life beyond death, may we celebrate the truth that God is always with us, that the peace of Christ is ours to cherish always.
Yours in Christ,
Rev Michiko
