Dear Glen Morris United Church,

What do you do when something breaks? When something delicate shatters into pieces?

I imagine these questions call to mind memories of clumsiness that lead to keepsakes and dishware being swept into the garbage.

What do you do when a heart breaks? When nations dissolve into war?

Join me this week for the second part of my exploration of the relationship between spirituality and craft, Creator and creativity where we will be exploring these questions through the insights offered to us by the Japanese craft of kintsugi. I would also like to invite you to contribute to the altar for Sunday morning worship. So please bring something that you’ve made or something to represent a way you express yourself creatively.

I’m so grateful for the crafting and creativity happening throughout this weekend. Tomorrow morning, my partner Johnny and I are going to be joined by 10 people in the Robson Community Room for a day of weaving. We’re so delighted to offer an opportunity for members of the community to experience the joy and challenge of learning a new skill and feeling the magic of creating something with your own hands. We will also have a hands-on way to appreciate the joy of crafting, creating, and community after the service with our pizza lunch and Advent decoration activity.

May the peace of Christ be with you,

May you have a moment to experience the joy of creating or infusing beauty into something mundane and feel Christ’ presence with you there,

Yours in Christ,

Rev Michiko

ps, Please note I will be away starting Monday November 19 for a one week Study Leave as I prepare for the season of Advent.
