Dear Glen Morris United Church,

We are very close to celebrating our 175th anniversary! I’m so grateful to the Anniversary Committee that has gone above and beyond this year planning so many wonderful events and have created a real excitement for our culminating events.

As we prepare for this special time of fellowship and worship, I would like to ask that if you have any special moments, stories, and/or people, you would like to see uplifted in prayer please get in touch. What have been defining moments in our church history? What were the stories you were told about the church as you grew up or arrived to the Glen?

In this week’s newsletter I also wanted to include several reflections on the death of The Very Rev., The Honourable Dr. Lois M. Wilson, the denomination’s 28th Moderator, and the first woman to fill the role. She faithfully served as Moderator from 1980 to 1982. Rev. Wilson died in hospital in Fredericton, NB, on Sept. 13, 2024. She was 97 years old. Over the past week I have seen many tributes from fellow colleagues about the impact she had as someone who was deeply devoted and fierce in her kindness and compassion to others. You can read more about Wilson’s formidable life here:

Honouring Lois Wilson: A lifetime dedicated to the common good | CBC Radio

"Wilson brought an unprecedented focus on peace, environmental stewardship and human rights. Her leadership style was confident yet collaborative and informed by her belief that faith communities should be at the forefront of social change. To that end, Wilson led the United Church into deeper conversations about nuclear disarmament, gender equality and the elimination of poverty, both at home and abroad."

In the honouring and remembering of our ancestors of faith, may the Peace of Christ be with us all,

In this season of harvest, change, and beauty, may the Peace of Christ be with you,

Yours in Christ,

Rev Michiko
