Dear Beloved Passing the Peace Readers,
I’m sitting on the rooftop terrace of the Idea Exchange in Cambridge (the Old Post Office location) and it’s just absolutely gorgeous: the Grand River, warm autumn breeze, and the quiet bustle of the city in the background. It’s so important to have spaces like this where people can work, play, and learn without having to buy anything. What a gift! I hope as we continue to imagine the ways Glen Morris United Church can act as a community hub we take inspiration and give thanks to libraries.
Sadly I’ll be missing Thanksgiving next week as I am heading off to Belgium to perform as a highland dancer in an international event. I’m very excited to share my love of dance with people from all over, especially in a non-competitive environment.
So, as an early Thanksgiving message: I hope that you are able to find some time over the next couple of weeks to gather with loved ones and reflect on what you are grateful for in your lives. There is certainly no shortage of things to be grateful for and many ways we can become distracted and forgetful of all the blessings we have. Especially for those of us dealing with loss in our lives, gratitude is a spiritual practice that becomes even more important during these times. This Sunday we are celebrating both the sacrament of baptism and communion - I hope you will be able to join us in-person or online so we can share these sacred acts in community together!
As the brilliant orange and red leaves remind us that change can be beautiful, may the peace of Christ be with you,
As the trees begin to shed their lives and remind us that letting go is a part of the cycle of life, may the peace of Christ be with you,
Yours in Christ,
Rev Michiko
